What is Lynda.com?

Lynda.com is an online training library that contains thousands of video courses on technology, business, and professional skills.  Each course is broken up into short videos that cover specific topics within a skillset.  Lynda.com users can develop proficiency in technologies like Adobe products, WordPress, and Microsoft Office, as well as professional skills like giving presentations, effective communication, and leadership.

Who can access Lynda.com at Emory?

Faculty, staff, and students affiliated with Emory University have access to Lynda.com.  

I'm an employee of Emory Healthcare. Can I access Lynda.com?

Lynda.com is not available to employees of Emory Healthcare unless they are also university faculty.

How do I access Lynda.com?

Emory users must access Lynda.com from the customized Emory Lynda.com site.  Starting from it.emory.edu/lynda,

  1. Select "Emory Login to Lynda" from the top menu.
  2. Login using your Emory NetID and password.

Can I use Lynda.com at home?

Yes. Log in from home (or anywhere else off-campus) using the same steps above.

Can I access my account directly from Lynda.com?

Yes, however we recommend logging in via the it.emory.edu/lynda site.  If you choose to log in via Lynda.com directly, follow these steps: 

  1. Click “Log in” in the top right corner.
  2. Select the “Organization” tab.
  3. Enter “emory.edu” in the field that says, “Enter your organization’s URL to log in through their portal.”  (If you have done this previously on your machine, you may simply click on the “Go” button).
  4. When you click “Log in,” you will be redirected to Emory’s login portal for Lynda.com.  Log in with your Emory Net ID and password.

Can I use Lynda.com on my mobile device?

The best way to access Lynda.com on a mobile device is via the apps.  There is an app for iOS devices, including iPhone and iPad, Android devices, and Windows 8 devices.  

How do I log in to the Lynda.com apps?

When you use the Lynda app for iOS, Windows 8, or Android mobile devices, you will log in directly via the app.

  1. Click on “Already a member?”
  2. Select the “Organization” tab.
  3. At the bottom, under the “Web Portal” option, enter “emory.edu” in the field that says, “Enter your organization’s URL to log in through their portal.” 
  4. When you click “Log in,” you will be redirected to Emory’s login portal for Lynda.com.  Log in with your Emory Net ID and password.

How do I create a course playlist?

At the top right, hover over your login name and select "Playlists" from the dropdown menu.  Click the "Create new playlist" button.  Click the + button on courses or videos anywhere on the site to add them to an existing playlist or new playlist.

I already had a personal Lynda.com account.  Is there a way to merge the content/courses from my previous account into my Lynda.com account with Emory?

Yes.  When you first log in to your Emory account, you will be asked if you already had a previous Lynda.com account.  Fill in the information required and the saved content from your existing account will transfer into your new Emory account.

How long is Emory's license for Lynda.com effective?

Emory Libraries has licensed access to Lynda.com through Fall 2017.
