It matters because I want to make sure I reach you. I want to bridge the gap of apathy. I want to move you to action.
The Dreamer...
Are you a dreamer? An early adopter? A true believer? I know you’re out there. 35 out of the first 100 people to sign sustainability pledges here at Emory are UTS employees.
When we adopt Green practices, ranging from power-saving laptop settings to recycling programs to avoiding individual printers, we reduce our energy footprint. Emory benefits financially. Earth benefits environmentally.
It’s good for everyone, really. We help shape the world we want and create a culture that says we can be responsible without losing our ability to perform. It can happen here.
The Realist...
Are you practical? Do you wonder what’s “really” behind things? Do you ask "why"? Do you look at the WIIFM (What's In It For Me)? It’s okay if you do. There is always a practical consideration.
Being first to the plate with cost-saving ideas of all sorts helps cement our reputation as team players in today’s financial climate. Cutting the cost of “things” helps avoid cutting the cost of staff. Plus, UTS benefits reputationally.
It’s good for everyone, really. We help lead our community when we are doing the things that nobody else has done yet. That’s the culture I want to work within. It will happen here.
Sustainability initiatives are good all around and I’m excited to see so many people embracing options wherever possible. I know I can count on you to comply with the initiatives already in place and to find new ways of building on and branching out from the ideas you’ll see in the rest of this newsletter.
Thanks,
Brett
