High Performance Computing: Support

Here are some answers to some frequently asked questions regarding cluster usage and support:

Q1: I am new to High Performance Computing, and have never used a cluster before.  Where can I get help?

A1:  The best place to start is to contact one of the service centers (Bimcore or the Emerson Center) who can provide you with access to consultants with experience in cluster programming.  (There may be fees associated with consulting time - please contact the corresponding service center for details.)

There are also a number of websites that may be useful for beginners with no experience with Sun Grid Engine:

http://gridengine.sunsource.net/howto/basic_usage.html

Q2:  I cannot login/access my files/submit jobs.  How do I get help?

A2:  For help with system (i.e., not programming) related issues, please send email to the High Performance Computing Group at

hpc"at"emory.edu  (substitute an "@" for the "at")

Q3:  I need to use package X in my work.  How do I get it installed on the cluster?

A3:  Please send your installation requests to the HPC group:

hpc"at"emory.edu  (substitute an "@" for the "at")

For obvious reasons, there are some packages that may not be appropriate for use on the cluster, or some that may not install due to software or hardware incompatibilities.  These issues are discussed with end user on a case-by-case basis.
