High Performance Computing: Rates

Cluster Usage Rates

Billing for the use of the ELLIPSE cluster is based on usage of the CPUs associated with particular job queues.  When users submit jobs for execution on the cluster, their work is submitted to one of the queues below.   Each queue has different runtime priorities and is associated with its own rate.  If no queue is specified, jobs will be submitted to the all.q queue by default.

The "all.q" cluster queue:
--------------------------
RATE: $.03/CPU hour
This is the default or "general" queue.
Spans all compute nodes
No access control list
4 job slots per compute node.
12 hour hard limit on all jobs
Queue instance will close/subordinate if there is 1 or more express jobs running

The "long.q" cluster queue:
---------------------------
RATE: $.025/CPU hour
Spans all compute nodes
All users can access this queue
No hard or soft job/time limits
1 job slot per compute node at this time
All jobs are run with a Unix NICE level of +15
Queue instance will close/subordinate if there are 1 or more express jobs running
Queue instance will close/subordinate if there are 2 or more general jobs running

The "express.q" cluster queue:
------------------------------
RATE: $.05/CPU hour
Spans all compute nodes
Has an access control list (currently only expressUsers user list can access)
2 job slots per compute node at this time
2 hour hard limit on all jobs
Not subordinate to any other queue

All billing rates are established by the EHPCC Executive Committee.
