About Blackboard at Emory

Blackboard is the university-adopted web-based course content management system. This secure system allows faculty to deliver instruction online without being an expert in web technologies. Instructors can incorporate class materials from word processors, presentations, and audio and video files. Blackboard is in use at thousands of institutions. Emory's Blackboard site can be found at http://classes.emory.edu/.

Learning More About Blackboard's Features

To learn more about Blackboard features, take a tour of our Blackboard online tutorial. Email the Blackboard administrators at classes@emory.edu for more information.

You'll also find helpful resources on the Blackboard login page at http://classes.emory.edu/. Next, you'll want to meet with a member of the Interactive Technologies team to discuss your course goals and objectives. The Interactive Technologies team also supports LearnLink, Insight, and Wimba.

Using Blackboard and/or LearnLink

Blackboard and LearnLink are complementary tools. Faculty are encouraged to use either or both to augment their courses. Using one or the other, or both depends on your needs.

In addition to being web-based and ideal for multimedia content, Blackboard offers:

  • course development and management tools,
  • communication and collaboration capabilities,
  • an online assessment engine with integrated gradebook, and
  • course reporting and student tracking.

LearnLink is client-based, and is designed as a communication and collaboration tool. It's best for facilitating online discussions and for group collaboration on projects.

Obtaining a Blackboard Course Site

A course site request form is accessible from the Blackboard login page at https://classes.emory.edu
