How do I keep from dropping my wireless connection every 10 minutes?

Some WindowsXP users have experienced a drop of wireless connectivity every ten minutes.  For many users, the button defaults to "Any available network (access point preferred)".  To solve the disconnect problem, ensure your Wireless Networks/Advanced settings are set to "Access point (infrastructure) networks only".

  1. Follow the configuration instructions for Emory Unplugged: Setup for Windows XP SP-2 in the Getting Started section of this website.
  2. Between Steps 3 and 4, select the Wireless Networks Tab and click Advanced.
  3. Ensure that "Access point (infrastructure) networks only" is checked, then click Close.
  4. Continue on with Step 4 in the Setup for Windows XP SP-2 instructions.

If you continue to experience problems, you'll also want to check your personal firewall settings and ensure that "pings to personal firewall are allowed."
