F5 Firepass SSL VPN

Virtual Private Network (VPN) provides off-campus users with secure access to the Emory University's internal network. F5 Firepass SSL VPN uses a web browser to establish the remote access connection. It secures traffic by encrypting communications.

Minimum System Requirements and Supported Browsers

Microsoft Windows

Requires Java 2 Platform, Standard Edition, v 1.4.2 (J2SE) or better. Check version by going to Control Panel - Add or Remove Programs. If needed, get the latest version at JAVA download.

  • Windows 2000 SP4
  • Windows XP (Windows XP Service Pack 2 requires the installation of a hotfix, Windows XPSP2 Update KB884020.) Check to see if the update is installed by going to Control Panel - Add or Remove Programs and clicking on Show Updates at the top. Scroll down to Windows XP - Software Updates to see if the update is there.

  • The following supported Linux platforms require workstations with libc version 2 and later, Kernel support for PPP interfaces (loadable module or static) and the pppd program in the correct directory (typically /usr/sbin or /usr/bin). Linux platforms are supported for Network Access and for Legacy Hosts (Java and HTML plugins only). 64-bit Linux clients are not supported.
