LearnLink developed at Emory primarily as an academic initiative to enhance learning. The system has been used in a variety of ways, from simply providing materials online to encouraging students to become more active participants in their own education and increasing communications between faculty and students.

As more people began to use LearnLink, various uses developed for the system outside of the traditional classroom applications. LearnLink is now an integral part of the Emory community, and provides a number of unique opportunities for communication.

The LearnLink environment has been created using a FirstClass server as the underlying structure and the basis for most system functions. LearnLink is most fuctional when users access the system via the FirstClass client software, but most content is still available for people connecting from the Web.
