Avaya Phone System: 19 Months Without Major Incident

September 22, 2009

Emory University experienced a system-wide phone outage on the morning of September 22, 2009, the first significant voice issue in 19 months.

By 10:00 am, Emory's University Technology Services (UTS) had restored and stabilized the system. All IP phones recovered successfully and internal voice/data switches are believed to be online.

Customers were contacted by their Business Relationship Manager (BRM) and a Code White was issued and cleared.

The root cause has not been determined, but teams are working on several theories. Until UTS knows precisely what caused it, there is a chance the issue could return.
